A typical day here

What this trip actually looks like.

Realistic, not idealised. Helps you picture it before you book.

  1. Morning

Coffee on the terrace, kids in the (heated) pool with a parent.

  2. Afternoon

Drive 10 min to Papagayo beach, supermarket run on the way back.

  3. Evening

BBQ on the terrace, wine outside once they're asleep - total privacy.

How kids experience it

What it feels like at their height.

Freedom

Needs supervision

Best for kids who love a private pool and garden - not for under-fives who'd need watching every minute outside (no shallow end).

What they'll love

  • Private heated pool, all to themselves
  • Fenced garden, no neighbours

What might frustrate them

  • Pool has no shallow end
  • Nothing to walk to

Room setup & cost with kids

What it actually takes to fit the family.

Easy - 1 room worksWorks for 3+ kids

Whole villa rental sleeps six - one price, fits a family of five or two families easily.

We don't list exact prices - they swing with season and platform. This is the structural reality with kids.

Stroller & walkability

How it actually moves with a stroller.

  • Car needed for groceries, food & exploring
  • Nothing within walking distance of the door
  • Smooth transfer in - kids can nap on the way

Quick read derived from the full logistics notes below - the long version has the specifics.

What I loved

The good bits, specifically.

  • Private heated pool nobody else is in. Underrated luxury with kids.
  • Three real bedrooms and a 640m² fenced plot - properly private.
  • Modern induction kitchen that works - self-catering feels like cooking, not coping.
  • Host team replies on WhatsApp within an hour, no theatrics.

What annoyed me

The honest small print.

  • No on-site anything - breakfast, sitters, staff. You're running it.
  • Pool is 1.6m at minimum - no shallow end, no fence around the water.
  • Volcanic gravel in the garden is sharp. Bring jelly shoes.
  • No walkable village - the car is in use every day.

01

Kid reality

150m² single-level villa on a 640m² fenced plot in Tías, with a private heated pool. The plot has a wall around it (parcela vallada) - no through traffic, no road noise, the kids can be loud. The crucial detail: the pool is heated and the listed minimum depth is 1.6m, which means it's a swim pool, not a paddle pool. There's no shallow end and no separate fencing around the water itself, so under-fives need a hands-on adult every minute they're outside. Mountain views, modern build, lots of natural light, big terrace.

02

Parent experience

It's a holiday home, not a hotel - so there's no breakfast, no sitter list, no concierge. What you get is total privacy, a real induction kitchen with dishwasher and oven, a heated pool nobody else is in, a barbecue, and the kind of evening where you can have a glass of wine on the terrace at normal volume. The host team replies on WhatsApp and that's roughly the extent of the service. Not for anyone who wants to be looked after.

03

Sleep setup

Three real bedrooms - two with king beds, one with two singles - and two bathrooms with showers. Genuinely sleeps six, which is unusual at this size and the reason it works for two families. Travel cot and high chair are listed as included on request. Blackout shutters in the bedrooms.

04

Logistics

Car essential - Arrecife airport is 15 min, the nearest supermarket 5 min, Puerto del Carmen beaches 10 min. Quiet residential area of Tías with no walkable village. Single-level layout inside the villa. Check-in 16:00 - 23:45, check-out by 10:00. Final cleaning fee (around €155) is added on top.

05

Food situation

Self-catering full stop. Kitchen is properly equipped (induction hob, oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle, cookware). Order a Hiperdino delivery to arrive on day one. For meals out, drive 10 min to Puerto del Carmen for family-friendly restaurants, or 25 min to Arrecife for anything more interesting. No on-site dining at all.

06

Where to go for coffee

Coffee & Co, Arrecife

Specialty beans in a sunlit corner spot - worth the 25-min drive.

07

Easy extras nearby

  • LunchLa Tegala, MácherVolcanic-rock terrace lunch - surprisingly kid-tolerant for a serious kitchen.
  • ActivityPapagayo beachesSheltered, shallow, properly child-friendly coves 30 min south.
